A neutral and independent indicator

Boardgaming is a growth sector: in 2016, 30 million copies of boardgames were sold (source UEJ), a number comparable to the 39 million graphic novels sold in 2016 (source GFK). With these strong numbers, it seemed obvious to the industry that it was time to reward the commercial successes of game publishers and their partners.

The awarding of Gold Pawn© certification is based on the number of sales internationally. These numbers have been chosen by professionals in the boardgaming industry.

The certification evolves along the life of the game

It’s possible to be awarded a category multiple times: “Triple gold pawn” means, for example, that 3 x 250.000 copies of a game have been produced.
